The situation in rural regions of Poland

Around 65 per cent of young people live in the rural regions.

In most regions, pastures are State owned, and rural residents use them for free.

The FAO Project for Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development in Mountain Regions has launched a new database of documentation on policies for sustainable agriculture and rural development in mountains.

The survey was representative of the nation as a whole urban and rural areas were considered separately, as were three regions North, Central and South in the country.

Other regions ranged between 15 and 68 , possibly reflecting the presence of some well developed urban areas and some poorly developed rural areas.

Those regions were the least densely populated in the country, with a population that was 35 per cent urban and 40 per cent rural, with the rest living in scattered areas.

Proposed implementation strategies have acknowledged that two thirds of the world's poor live in rural areas and that the need for progress on education, gender equality, maternal and child mortality, HIV AIDS eradication and sustainable development appears particularly acute in rural regions of most developing countries.3

The Rural Women apos s Programme, created in 1991 by the Ministry of Agrarian Reform, promotes the financing and operation of production activities and services to benefit organized rural women throughout the country. It has been offered primarily in disadvantaged regions with an indigenous population.

The Haitian Government is highly centralized so that the challenges of Port au Prince overshadow the tragedy of the rural areas and other regions.

On page 33 of the report, it is stated that data on progress in enrolment in primary schools conceals large disparities between boys and girls, between urban and rural areas and between regions.

Much of the urban growth comes from the increasing migration of the rural population to urban areas and legal and illegal migration across borders and regions.

In the 1970s, the experimental application technology satellite (ATS 6) was used to deliver ITV programmes to remote and rural areas in the Appalachian and Rocky Mountain regions and to the State of Alaska.

Further work addressing this topic in other regions and between regions is in development.

In addition to coverage disparities between countries and regions, there are significant inequities within countries clear rural urban disparities as well as coverage and service level disparities between richer and poorer households.

10. Undeveloped infrastructure of rural regions is forcing people to migrate into increasingly congested urban areas in search of opportunities the world apos s urban population is growing by 170,000 each day.

The rural women apos s programme currently serves 170 organizations, with a total of 2,251 members, in eight regions of the country (Chiriquí, Veraguas, Herrera, Los Santos, Coclé, Capira, Colón and Chepo).

In rural areas and in the various regions of the country where the military has an especially strong position, the human rights situation seems to be particularly grave and too few violations are being investigated.

31. Notes with appreciation the contribution of the Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development in Mountain Regions project of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the statement of the Adelboden Group in promoting specific policies, appropriate institutions and processes for mountain regions, and the positive, unaccounted economic benefits they provide

Rural Health Centers obviously are more concentrated in rural areas (378 with 5636 beds in rural areas compared to 135 with 2250 beds in urban areas).

When considering the country's three macro regions, self employment seems to represent the biggest source of income in all the zones of the country, overall in the rural areas where it promotes 60 of total income.

The Committee is concerned about the continued irregularities in the State party's provision of universal access to free compulsory primary education, in particular with regard to rural communities, minority regions, disadvantaged families and internal migrant population.
