The situation in rural regions of Poland

Around 65 per cent of young people live in the rural regions.

In most regions, pastures are State owned, and rural residents use them for free.

This decline is consistent across all the regions as well as for the urban and rural areas.

The Committee also requests the State party in its next periodic report to include annual comparative data, disaggregated by rural urban regions, the percentage of gross domestic product allotted for education, health and housing programmes, in particular in the ethnic minority regions.

By the end of 2003, the Programme completed the formulation of planning for provision of clean water and rural sanitation for 7 regions and provinces 61 and cities.

The Rural Women apos s Programme, created in 1991 by the Ministry of Agrarian Reform, promotes the financing and operation of production activities and services to benefit organized rural women throughout the country. It has been offered primarily in disadvantaged regions with an indigenous population.

In most least developed countries, the poor are usually rural small scale subsistence farmers, as in sub Saharan Africa and other regions, or urban people engaged in the informal sector.

Those regions were the least densely populated in the country, with a population that was 35 per cent urban and 40 per cent rural, with the rest living in scattered areas.

In addition to coverage disparities between countries and regions, there are significant inequities within countries clear rural urban disparities as well as coverage and service level disparities between richer and poorer households.

10. Undeveloped infrastructure of rural regions is forcing people to migrate into increasingly congested urban areas in search of opportunities the world apos s urban population is growing by 170,000 each day.

The rural women apos s programme currently serves 170 organizations, with a total of 2,251 members, in eight regions of the country (Chiriquí, Veraguas, Herrera, Los Santos, Coclé, Capira, Colón and Chepo).

Support for various productive enterprises and encouragement for private sector institutions that establish or foster small family run industries, especially in economically disadvantaged regions in urban areas, rural areas and semi desert areas

In particular, more investment is needed to increase the quantity and quality of school meals, education grants and scholarships, and to provide more and better classrooms to schools in urban and rural regions.

The project will contribute to developing ICT access points into knowledge stations connecting disadvantaged communities throughout various regions of the world and a greater understanding of the information needs for sustainable rural development.

Dramatic disparities in enrolment between regions and urban and rural areas remain, with girls representing less than 15 per cent of the total enrolment in nine provinces in the east and the south.

104. The Committee is concerned about the prevailing disparities between urban and rural areas and between regions in relation to the provision of and access to social services, including education, health and social security.
