Post conflict peacebuilding is an essential part of the process of restoring genuine peace and stability in countries and regions emerging from conflict.

A return to violence must be prevented by means of peacebuilding to ensure stability and development in the countries and regions emerging from conflict.

The real story for the next two decades will be these countries shift to middle class status. Although other emerging regions will undergo a similar shift, Asia will dominate this transformation.

As a result of this trend, we foresee an emerging, untenable and, indeed, unwarranted situation with the potential to divide regions and or continents and to adversely affect cordial relations between States.

But Kharas s projections suggest that Asia will account for two thirds of the world s middle class by 2030. In other words, Asia will displace not just the West, but even other emerging regions.

These activities should be carried out in such a way as to make the programmes a catalyst for social transformation laying the foundations for lasting stabilization in countries emerging from conflict and in their regions.

The Council is called upon to pursue more vigorously and expeditiously the use of arms embargoes, under Article 41 of the Charter of the United Nations, to countries or regions threatened by, engaged in or emerging from armed conflict, and to promote their effective implementation.
