There are almost five million long term unemployed Americans, constituting more than 40 of total unemployment. Millions more have dropped out of the measured labor force altogether.

Although there are pockets of high unemployment in Europe today, the ratio of workers to elderly people will decline considerably in the longer term. And, already, labor market flexibility has been undermined by structural inertia, including difficulties in retooling and retraining workers, particularly the long term unemployed.

We know this because of long term science, because we have long term studies there.

They fail to build long term markets and long term opportunities, the crux of business success.

Most importantly, they have to be long term, since reconstruction itself is a long term process.
