Two thirds of the ex combatants remain unemployed and former combatants are likely to be tempted to take up arms again without prospects for long term socio economic opportunities.

The buying back of guns is not the correct approach rather, engaging former members of the military and the armies of unemployed youth in short term and long term productive social and economic projects may be more realistic.

Long struggling European citizens especially the long term unemployed have yet to gain any sustained benefit from the austerity measures to which they have been subjected. And the result is not just general disappointment and worrisome social unrest.
