The Japan Fisheries Association reported that Japanese tuna fishing vessels operating in the CCSBT Convention area could obtain the authorization to do so from the competent authorities provided that they avoided incidental catch of seabirds in accordance with Japan s Fisheries Act and the regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Oman reported that, under the Marine Fisheries and Protection of Living Marine Resources Act promulgated by Decree No. 81 53, as amended, and the relevant implementing regulations issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, all fishing vessels and boats belonging to Oman were obligated to obtain a licence to engage in fishing.
