These events once again proved that the Russian peace keeping forces deployed in the region, neither by their format nor by ideology, do not serve the purpose of conflict resolution and demilitarization of the region.

We decided not to oppose the resolution because of the need for the international community to work together in order to end the climate of impunity in the Sudan and because the resolution provides protection from investigation or prosecution for United States nationals and members of the armed forces of non State parties.

The resolution called upon the Ivorian parties to cooperate with UNOCI in establishing within 45 days a comprehensive list of armaments in the possession of their armed forces and of paramilitary troops and militias associated with them.
