The HIV AIDS Unit of UNAMSIL, in close collaboration with the force medical cell, has continued to conduct HIV AIDS sensitization and awareness training programmes.

UNMIL has continued to provide its personnel with awareness training and sensitization on HIV AIDS.

The UNMEE HIV AIDS unit continued to conduct induction training for new arrivals to the Mission area.

The HIV AIDS Unit conducted induction training for 200 Bangladeshi troops and military observers in Sector I.

In addition to providing voluntary counselling and testing services to new arrivals, the UNMEE HIV AIDS unit has assisted in the preparation of training courses for the HIV AIDS learning facilitators in Eritrea.

Jointly with UNAIDS, MINUSTAH developed an HIV AIDS peer leader training programme to engage its personnel in prevention, education and communication activities, and to establish partnerships with national and international organizations involved in HIV AIDS response, particularly vulnerable groups and people living with HIV AIDS.

Following a training programme held for the National AIDS Council of Zimbabwe, standard guidelines on mainstreaming gender and human rights in HIV and AIDS care, prevention, mitigation and treatment will be adopted into policy.

In another initiative, UNOGBIS, working with the national programme to fight HIV AIDS and the United Nations coordination expert on HIV AIDS, has organized 34 training sessions for the armed forces and border guards.

For example, the AIDS Prevention Centre planned to carry out two training seminars on trafficking in human beings for journalists in 2004.

Provide systematic gender training for all categories and levels of peacekeeping personnel and harmonize and expand on the range of generic and specialized gender and women's rights training materials and resources, including HIV AIDS awareness, available for use in predeployment and in mission training.

It is recommended that school curricula include life skills training on topics such as HIV AIDS, sex education, conflict prevention and active citizenship.

It includes on the job training, health and hygiene programmes, alliances with AIDS associations and information campaigns directed at Governments, employers and workers.

The modalities for cooperation include capacity building and assessments in areas such as agriculture, drinking water, training in HIV AIDS prevention and medical attention, diplomatic training, drainage engineering and the production and quality control of seeds.

The Inter Agency Standing Committee Task Force on HIV AIDS in Emergency Settings, under the chairmanship of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV AIDS (UNAIDS), has tested and promoted the use of the 2004 guidelines on HIV AIDS in emergency settings and has conducted training sessions in different contexts.

As part of inter agency efforts to develop guidelines and training support, UNHCR has been developing Emergency Team Leadership Training as well as helping to strengthen areas such as HIV AIDS field training an early warning early action system and gender based violence interventions in humanitarian settings.

The training has been redesigned to include additional issues such as sexual exploitation and abuse, gender and human rights, cultural sensitivity and HIV AIDS in the workplace.

The resource requirements will be used for internal and external training, mainly in the areas of communications and information technology, electoral process, ground transportation, engineering, management skills, disarmament, demobilization and reintegration, human rights, HIV AIDS, security and training management and for language courses.

Life skills training, behaviour modification techniques and peer education policies and programmes that have been successful in HIV AIDS awareness and prevention should be scaled up and replicated.

These studies paved the way to develop culture training modules, one of which focused on HIV AIDS, and a manual to engage faith based organizations in HIV prevention.

ECP comprises a combination of essential drugs and equipment, and basic mother and child health care service provision and training, including HIV AIDS prevention and reproductive health activities.

With the support of NGOs, the National Programme for the Control of AIDS (PNLS) recently launched a multisectoral plan of action to combat STD HIV AIDS, spearheaded by the National Committee Against AIDS (CNLS), and awareness programmes and training for caregivers as well as programmes of economic support for prostitutes have been introduced in certain Guinean cities and in refugee reception centres.

The Special Committee welcomes the efforts that have been made in training of military and civilian personnel on arrival and during their service in the mission areas, both on the Organization's standards of conduct relating to sexual exploitation and abuse and on HIV AIDS awareness, and calls upon the Department of Peacekeeping Operations to review HIV AIDS training to ensure that the prohibitions in the Secretary General's bulletin are fully included.
