The prevention work for HIV AIDS is based on the national development plan for the prevention of HIV AIDS 2002 2006 (approved by the Government on 16 January 2002).

AIDS was first detected in Pakistan in 1987. An extensive programme on AIDs prevention was launched the same year.

These initiatives are also linked to the prevention of HIV AIDS, in the context of drug abuse prevention.

HIV AIDS prevention and care are crucial to the work of UNODC in the context of drug abuse prevention.

As regards HIV and AIDS prevention, Act No. 26 stipulates disciplinary measures and measures to control the AIDS epidemic and the spread of HIV.

In regard to the measures that the Ministry of Health takes for prevention of HIV AIDS, activities are underway by which the Ministry of Health implements the program for HIV AIDS prevention, supported by a grant from the Global Fund for the fight against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria.
