If the world economy s current growth patterns continue, we face ecological disaster. If the world economy embraces a new growth pattern one that harnesses advanced technologies like smart phones, broadband, precision agriculture, and solar power we can spread prosperity while saving the planet.

World steel production has been increasing since 1994, and since 2001 the rate of growth has accelerated.

Over the past decade, China has accounted for an average of 1.6 percentage points of world GDP growth per year more than double the combined 0.7 percentage point contribution of the so called advanced economies. Even if its GDP growth slows to 6.8 this year, China would account for slightly more growth than is likely from the advanced world.

The economic growth in China was still at the forefront of the world compared with other major economies.

Since the early 2000s, China has been the major driver of growth in steel consumption in the world.

The obvious answer is yes. But how society responds will mean the difference between a prosperous world and a world torn apart by slow growth and resentment.

The developed world still accounts for nine tenths of world outward FDI flows, but FDI from developing countries has shown higher growth rates in the recent past.

The high growth countries (China and India) are large and getting larger relative to the rest. That alone will tend to elevate global growth compared to the world where industrial countries, and the US in particular, were in the growth driving seat.

Asia's real export growth rate atof 15 per cent in that was the highest in the world, with China, Republic of Korea and Singapore recording growth rates of over 20 per cent.

High oil prices are set to dampen economic performance in the rest of the world as well, although growth prospects look better than in the US. China s growth continues to astound the world indeed, new GDP data suggest that its economy is 20 larger than previously thought.

Now Africa, Sub Saharan Africa Sub Saharan Africa has been the area of the world most resistant to growth.

In the world today, it's the countries that have the highest mortality rates that have the fastest population growth.

No other developing region of the world has been more successful in creating economic growth and alleviating absolute poverty.

It's about us and our greed and our need for growth and our inability to imagine a world that is different from the selfish world we live in today.

The dynamism of a given commodity can be measured by different indicators such as the growth of world export value or the growth of its share in world commodities exports compared to those of other commodities of the same group (in the case of steel minerals and metals ).

Meanwhile, a highly interdependent and (now) less dynamic world economy has been limiting the scope for external growth drivers. Accordingly, even countries with sound balance sheets and manageable leverage have experienced a growth slowdown.

The world trade multiplier, though less widely recognized, helps to explain why the growth deceleration has been so widespread and persistent. When a country s economic growth slows, it imports less from other countries, thereby reducing those countries growth rates, and causing them, too, to reduce imports.

The world is not preoccupied today by the limits to growth, but awareness of the consequences of growth on the earth s climate and ecosystem is becoming prevalent. China, for example, needs annual growth rates of 10 to keep its huge economic, social, and ecological problems under control.

We should also remember that what growth there is in the world economy in 2009 2010 will come mostly from developing economies. Policies supporting their growth are critical to prospects in the advanced economies, too.

Available statistical data (ITU World Communications Database) show that there is continued growth in the number of computers worldwide (Table 3).

In an optimal world, the surpluses of countries pursuing export led growth would be willingly matched by the deficits of those pursuing debt led growth. In the real world, there is no mechanism to ensure such an equilibrium on a continuous basis national economic policies can be (and often are) mutually incompatible.

Since eurozone countries trade extensively with each other and the rest of the world, their slowdowns have contributed significantly to a decrease in global trade, in turn undermining global growth. In particular, as European imports from East Asia have fallen, East Asian economies growth is down sharply from last year and the 2010 forecast and, predictably, growth in their imports from the rest of the world has lost momentum.

So the only way of really getting world population growth to stop is to continue to improve child survival to 90 percent.

But we wish to state clearly here that when we go out into the world, we encounter barriers that undermine our growth.

Azerbaijan was pleased that on the whole the World Economic and Social Survey 2005 projected economic growth and favourable prospects for development.

The ESCAP region is a major contributor to world trade growth, with both exports and imports growing faster than world exports and imports and with China becoming the world's third largest trading nation.

The time is right for a new global settlement that targets growth, addresses crisis conditions in certain parts of the world, and rebalances the global economy to set it back on a path of strong and steady growth.

The same kind of erosion in home prices could occur in many cities around the world. All that is required is that growth in housing supply eventually outstrips investors faith in capitalism to sustain faster growth in demand.

This two track world poses some unusual risks. While Asia s economic output is too small to pull up growth in the rest of the world, it may be enough to push up commodity prices.
