The consumer price index in July 2016 compared to June 2016 was 101.0 , i.e. the monthly inflation was 1.0 .

Given widespread apathy about changes in consumer prices, the modest success of a new market to hedge inflation risk, the European inflation futures market at the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), is noteworthy. Since September, this new market has traded the Eurozone s Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices, or HICP a contract that traders call the hiccup.

For inflation, the same is applied for updating previous assumptions based on the actual monthly consumer price indexes prevailing in the country of operation.

Inflation is another concern. With official figures widely discredited, private analysts estimate that consumer prices are rising at an annual rate of 25 or more.

The expected increase in exports will sustain domestic demand in both countries, and the manageable level of inflation that is predicted may sustain consumer confidence, thereby gradually increasing investment.

Consumer price inflation in the eurozone has been below target for 22 consecutive months long before the price of oil started collapsing. Cheaper oil is a boon for growth but it also lowers long term inflation expectations, which are the true target of monetary policy.

For inflation, previous assumptions are updated on the basis of actual monthly consumer price indices prevailing in the country of operation and any adjustments indicated by the respective field offices.

But claims that China is overheating don t seem to be based on observations of inflation. While China s consumer price index rose 5.3 in the year ending in July 2004, this was due primarily to a spike in food prices both before and since, inflation has been negligible.

Administrative measures in the agricultural sector, aimed at alleviating supply bottlenecks for pork, cooking oil, fresh vegetables, and fertilizer, have pushed food price inflation lower. This is the main reason why the headline consumer inflation rate receded from 6.5 in July 2011 to 4.2 in November.

CAMBRIDGE The rate of inflation is now close to zero in the United States and several other major countries. The Economist recently reported that economists it had surveyed predict that consumer prices in the US and Japan will actually fall for 2009 as a whole, while inflation in the euro zone will be only 0.6 . It's a process of the production and reproduction of novelty, continually chasing expanding consumer markets, consumer goods, new consumer goods.

The share of countries recording outright deflation in consumer prices (the green line) is higher in 2015 than that of countries experiencing double digit inflation (7 of the total). Whatever nasty surprises may lurk in the future, the global inflation environment is the tamest since the early 1960s.

Moreover, surveys of consumer expectations show that US households expect prices to rise at more than 2 in both the coming year and the more distant future. That expected inflation rate is consistent with the difference in interest rates between ordinary US government bonds and Treasury Inflation Protected Securities.

Zero inflation for the past three months has been a one time event driven by the fall in energy prices. The other broad components of the consumer price index have increased in recent months, and the consumer price index is up about two percentage points over the past 12 months.

But worries about potential deflation scenarios are unwarranted. On the contrary, by increasing Spaniards real disposable incomes, low inflation is helping to stimulate private consumption, fueling a corresponding improvement in economic sentiment indicators, including consumer trust.

The Fed decided to define price stability as a two percent annual inflation over the medium term of the price index of consumer expenditures. For the past 12 months, that rate of increase has been about 1.5 .

Its importance is not only for the reason that it is important for corporate profitability and consumer purchasing power, but also because wage jumps may cause overall inflation, which may upset the officials of the Federal Reserve Board.

In Ecuador, inflation has increased 2.7 per cent since the onset of the phenomenon, while Brazil saw a rise of 0.49 per cent, Costa Rica 1.59 per cent and Mexico 1.17 per cent in the consumer price index.

If one accounts for consumer goods expenditure on imports, that 10 appreciation would lower inflation, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), by just 0.5 percentage points in the first two quarters. And that is likely to be an upper bound, because it assumes that US retailers will pass through to consumers the full amount of any increase in import prices.

With respect to inflation, consideration is given, as necessary, to a series of factors, including analysis of the movement of the consumer price index at the different duty stations for goods and services and probable increases in the salaries of General Service staff as a result of the movement of consumer price indices and the outcome of comprehensive salary surveys.
