A normal gap between supply and demand for some subset of currently produced commodities is not a serious problem, because it is balanced by excess demand for other currently produced commodities. As industries suffering from insufficient demand shed workers, industries benefiting from surplus demand hire them.

But perhaps the other, bigger gap is what we call the hope gap.

Many influential economists are now worried that the US faces anemic growth and secular stagnation, owing to a persistent gap between aggregate demand and full employment. Stagnant middle class incomes imply weak aggregate demand, which in turn means slack labor markets and stagnant wages for most workers.

The gap between demand and supply has become even more acute because of resistance to post mortem donation because of local legal, religious and cultural barriers and, thus, the limited supply of cadaveric organs.
