Developed country Parties' reports

An overall illustration of financial and technical support by developed country Parties to developing country Parties is thus missing.

Through the CRIC, communication and understanding between developed country Parties, international organizations and affected country Parties have been strengthened.

Furthermore, joint missions to some developed country Parties were organized.

Eighteen of 29 developed country Parties have presented their reports.

Developed country Parties generally give preference to wood energy projects rather than renewable energies.

CRIC The session reviewed 49 reports from affected African country Parties, as well as 20 reports from developed country Parties, 10 from United Nations organizations and 11 from Iintergovernmental Oorganizations.

The affected developing country Parties have exchanged their experiences and lessons learnted in all seven thematic topics (decision 1 COP.5), while developed country Parties have only exchanged information on a small number of collaborative projects they have undertaken in developing country Parties.

This synthesis provides observations on these reports (primarily those from affected African country Parties and developed country Parties), together with comments, remarks and recommendations as to how to improve these reports.

In particular, there is an imbalance in the current CRIC review process between the review of reports of affected developing country Parties and those of developed country Parties and relevant agencies.

Reemphasizing that the implementation of the commitments of developed country Parties and other developed Parties included in Annex II, as stated in Article 4, paragraph 5, of the Convention, is contributing to, and is an essential condition for, the effective implementation by developing country Parties of their commitments under the Convention,

In addition to the African country Parties, 20 developed country Parties, 10 United Nations system organizations and 11 other intergovernmental organizations submitted their reports on measures taken to implement the Convention in Africa.

The LEG was also requested, in consultation with least developed country Parties, to include in its report to the twenty third session of the SBI information on the potential technical and financial difficulties that least developed country (LDC) Parties may have in the implementation of NAPAs.

Potential technical and financial difficulties faced by least developed country Parties in implementing their national adaptation programmes of action

An intensive fundraising campaign among developed country Parties has been carried out, in the hope of securing adequate financial resources to facilitate participation of representatives of eligible country Parties and NGOs at COP 7.

Reaffirming that, in accordance with Article 4, paragraph 3, of the Convention, the developed country Parties and other developed Parties included in Annex II to the Convention shall provide new and additional financial resources to meet the agreed full costs incurred by developing country Parties in complying with their obligations under Article 12, paragraph 1, of the Convention,

At the time this synthesis was being prepared, 14 reports had been submitted by developed country Parties to the UNCCD secretariat.

CRIC 1 reviewed 48 reports from affected African country Parties, 44 reports from Asia, 33 from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), 17 from Northern Mediterranean, Central and Eastern Europe and other affected country Parties, as well asand 22 reports from developed country Parties, 10 from United Nations organizations and 8 from Iintergovernmental Oorganizations.

A synthesis of the analysis of the reports (primarily those of affected African country Parties and developed country Parties) has been prepared by the Chairperson of the GoE and is hereby transmitted by the secretariat for the consideration of the CST.

It also encourages the affected developed country Parties and the relevant international organizations to further take into account the aims and objectives of the UNCCD in their strategies to support the efforts of the affected developing country Parties and other Parties covered by Regional Implementation Annexes of the Convention.

It also considered reports by developed country Parties on measures taken to assist in the preparation and implementation of action programmes of all regions.

AOAD has developed activities taking into account the aims and objectives of the UNCCD in its strategies to support the efforts of affected country Parties.

Reiterating that the extent to which developing country Parties will effectively implement their commitments will depend on the effective implementation by the developed country Parties of their commitments related to financial resources and transfer of technology and will take fully into account that economic and social development and poverty eradication are the first and overriding priorities of the developing country Parties,

However, no developing country ever became a developed country through aid alone.

TPN 5 on traditional knowledge and TPN 6 on renewable energy are currently being developed by the country Parties of the region, with the support of the secretariat.

In decision 4 COP.6, the Conference of Parties encourages the developed country Parties and the relevant international organizations to further take into account the aims and objectives of the UNCCD in their strategies to support the efforts of the affected developing country Parties and other Parties covered by Regional Implementation Annexes of the Convention in the context of the implementation of the Convention .

Some Parties have developed policies for cleaner industrial production.

(iii) Access by affected country Parties, particularly affected developing country Parties, to appropriate technology, knowledge and know how.

On many occasions, developed country Governments were the defendants.

It should also strive to encourage developed countries country Parties to increase their financial and technical assistance to affected developing countriescountry Parties It is expected that the CRIC strengthens dialogues and exchanges on the above mentioned issues in the future.

Norway, located in Northern Europe, is a highly developed country.

Targeted support to affected country Parties

In this regard, technical assistance to be provided by developed country Parties, and other Parties in accordance with their capabilities, shall include, as appropriate and as mutually agreed, technical assistance for capacity building relating to implementation of the obligations under this Convention.

These reports contain information concerning these Parties' recent support for affected African country Parties.

And of course, the more developed the country, the bigger these mountains.

The African region developed separate software for use at the country level.

The African country Party reports were largely very well developed and comprehensive.

The importance of strengthening the relationships between parliaments of affected developing countries and developed country Parties was stressed, and proposal for action is being prepared in this regard by the UNCCD Parliamentary Steering Committee.

The reports of developed country Parties show that efforts tend to be more focused on ecosystem, protected area and national park management than on forest and development programmes based on tree plantation and reforestation projects.

The participating parties, both from developed and developing countries, think this is crucial.

Urges developed country Parties to mainstream the implementation of the Convention into their development cooperation policies and programming instruments in order better to target their support for the implementation of NAPs and to coordinate their country level response by using a lead donor (chef de file) approach

Developed country Party reports were narrower in scope and typically not as comprehensive.
