General legal services provided to United Nations organs and programmes

The following posts are proposed for the General Services Section

Two Shipping Assistants, 1 Field Service, and 1 national General Service (redeployed from General Services Section).

General description The Major Programme provides direction and management for six programmes Human Resource Management, Financial Services, Information Network and Knowledge Management Services, Procurement and Logistics Services, Legal Services and Buildings Management.

The services include personnel services (recruitment and administration of headquarters staff and international field staff) financial services (budgets, payroll, general accounting, treasury and expenditure approval) and general services (office space, building management, communications, mail and messenger service, issuance of official documents, travel and transportation assistance, support to central local area network computer services and e mail and Internet access).

A Crisis Pregnancy Agency had been opened in 2001, and general practitioners provided family planning services free of charge to those who had a card for free general medical services.

The staffing for the General Services Section, the Integrated Support Services and the Supply Section includes proposals for new deputy positions.

General description The Programme provides a diverse range of essential services in support of all UNIDO activities, including procurement of goods and services, inventory and records management, and communications, travel, transportation and shipment services.

The Under Secretary General for Internal Oversight indicated that the support costs were related mainly to auditing services, however, and that investigation services were charged at cost.

Major Programme G provides a number of specific programmes to meet the full range of administrative needs of UNIDO, including human resource management, financial services, procurement and logistical services (formerly referred to as General Services), legal services, and information and knowledge management, as well as the overall direction and management of these services.

ICT applications, in general, have been introduced to upgrade service delivery in terms of wider access to services, enhanced efficiency and timeliness, a more citizen centred approach to services, and greater effectiveness, relevance and quality of services.

This Programme, B.2, covers the functions of the Comptroller General, internal audit and evaluation services.
