(a) Government forces, including the armed forces, the police forces, security forces and popular defence forces.

According to the Government this person was not arrested by the security forces or the police.

On 21 July 1997, the Government denied that Aziz Bouabdallah had ever been arrested by the security forces.

Reconstruction of the security and defence forces, which has already begun, and the re equipment of those forces are matters that the Government is working to resolve.

3. Support to the security forces

In an apparent challenge to the formation of the elected Government, attacks on Iraq's police and security forces were particularly frequent.

On 20 September 1996 the Government replied that there had been no operations by the security forces on 27 July 1996.

To improve the security situation of the civilians, government forces sometimes deployed large landmine rings around the urban and accommodation centres.

There have been no security incidents requiring UNAMSIL support for the Sierra Leone security forces since the Mission handed over primary responsibility for security in the country to the Government in September 2004.

Grave human rights violations reportedly attributable to the security forces of His Majesty's Government include disappearances, summary executions, torture and arbitrary detention.

Such visits would go far in helping His Majesty's Government, including the security forces, to prevent disappearances, executions, arbitrary arrest and torture.

9. There are disturbing reports of the existence of civilian militias formed by the Algerian Government and integrated into the security forces.

360. The Special Rapporteur transmitted to the Government of Nicaragua allegations of violations of the right to life committed by security forces.

The Security Council also notes the commendable role played by the Iraqi Security Forces and the Multi National Forces Iraq in providing security to the elections.

The immunity from prosecution of the national security forces contained in article 33 of the National Security Forces Act should be repealed.

To provide logistic support to national security forces

A number of those security forces were killed.

Turning to progress in training the Iraqi security forces, the Iraqi Government, working with the Multinational Force, has identified a force structure to meet Iraq's needs for internal and external security.

Training Iraqi security forces to take over primary responsibility for security is critical.

15. The Special Rapporteur was also informed of the lack of significant progress in judicial investigations involving the Angolan Government apos s security forces.

After the deadline had expired without any progress being made, the Minister of Communication said that the Government would empower its security forces, the defence forces, and even the population to curb the FNL activism .

The terms armed or security forces or peace support forces elements were put forward as suggestions.

Nevertheless, the Government and the international security forces must remain extremely vigilant with regard to all sources of intimidation and violence against voters and candidates.

The Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) attacked two convoys that were being escorted by Government security forces on 23 July on the Nyala El Fasher road.

The Government must also build on recent progress in the reform and restructuring of the security services, particularly the armed forces and the national police.

3. Excessive use of force by the security forces

A number of youths had reportedly thrown stones at members of the security forces and, in response, the security forces allegedly fired on the youths.

The Turkish Forces Turkish Cypriot security forces remain in violation of the military status quo in Strovilia.

Nivio Sarmento was a civil servant of the provincial government of East Timor and was never arrested or detained by the police or other security forces.

101. Dissident armed forces are armed forces which have risen up against those remaining loyal to the Government.
