A gender and human development report was initiated by the Government.

The Human Development Report 2005 ranked Tonga 54th among 177 countries.

The overall position of women in terms of human development is reflected in the gender related development index (GDI) of the UNDP Human Development Report of 2002.

In the 2005 United Nations Human Development Report, Australia is ranked second in the Gender related development index and seventh in the Gender empowerment measure.

Every year, the UNDP publishes a ranking of countries by their Human Development Index (HDI), which incorporates other dimensions of wellbeing besides income, including health and education.

We fully support the central tenets of the Secretary General's report that development, security and human rights are inextricably linked.

Human security at the community and individual level, as mentioned in my report In larger freedom towards development, security and human rights for all (A 59 2005) is important for durable peace and sustainable development in Africa.
