Appreciating the contribution made by the Commission on Sustainable Development to the issue of education for sustainable development since the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development,

Reflecting the high level of interest on the issue of reform, the Commission held an informal meeting on the human rights sections of my report entitled In larger freedom .

Violence against women is an issue that many of the special procedures of the Commission on Human Rights have addressed in relation to their particular mandates.

Mr. Gabriel (United States of America) suggested that the issue be referred to the drafting group, since the Commission was in agreement on the substantive issues.

The issue of law making treaties was discussed by the International Law Commission in drafting the Vienna Convention on Succession of States in Respect of Treaties.

The Commission discussed the issue of the composition of the Bureau for its 2006 substantive session.

However, the Commission would revisit the issue of establishing a completion deadline at its next session.

Canada welcomes the intent and actions of the Transitional Government of Haiti in tackling that issue, including through its plan to establish a national commission on DDR.

In 2005, among other regional initiatives, the Commission released its inaugural issue of Africa's Sustainable Development Bulletin.

My response to the request by the Commission for a legal opinion on the question at issue is contained in a paper attached to this letter (see annex).

Notable as well is the Coordination Cooperation Commission which looks into the issue of safe houses for women.
