In 2001 the Estonian Open Society Institute conducted a survey commissioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs.

2.14 On 12 December 2000, the author was prevented from leaving Angola for South Africa to participate in an Open Society Institute conference his passport was confiscated.

In 2003, the Open Society Institute conducted a gender equality monitoring survey commissioned by the Ministry of Social Affairs with the aim to find out the opinions and attitudes of society towards gender equality and the role of women and men.

After experiencing the benefits of democracy and freedom of expression, Taiwanese are unlikely to want to settle for anything less than the open society that they have today.
