4.2 Through the United Nations Programme on Space Applications, the Office for Outer Space Affairs contributed to the strengthening of indigenous capability of developing countries in the utilization of space technology and its applications and led international efforts to establish regional centres for space science and technology education.

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has already established basic facilities at its various centres and units for the effective utilization of space capabilities, particularly remote sensing applications, by adopting a user friendly approach.

That delegation was of the view that all users of space should consider the possible consequences of their ongoing or planned NPS activities in space before further irreversible actions were taken that could affect the future utilization of near or outer space.

88. UNDP has defined space standards for country offices, which allocate space by staff grade. The Board reviewed space occupancy and utilization at the country offices it visited and considered that space standards were generally adhered to. However, the varied configuration of premises occupied by UNDP in the field sometimes meant that space standards could not always be strictly applied.

In many developing countries, space technology as a new tool for development will undergo a long process from the stages of research and manufacturing to commercial utilization.

Each unit can fly up to 25 times over a ten year period and will support the space station logistics in both the assembly and utilization phases.
