The term of office of members elected at subsequent elections shall begin on the day after the date of expiry of the term of office of the members whom they replace.

In the case of members elected at subsequent elections, their term of office shall begin on the day following the date of expiry of the term of office of the members whom they replace.

(b) On the date of the approval by the Committee, if appointed to fill a casual vacancy, and shall end on the date of expiration of the term of office of the member or members being replaced.

The Council elected Sweden to fill a postponed vacancy for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2008.

The Council postponed the election of one member from Asian States and two members from Latin American and Caribbean States for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring on 31 December 2008.

The Council also elected Haiti to fill a postponed vacancy on the Commission for a term beginning on the date of election and expiring at the close of the Commission's forty first session, in 2008.

And while important work has been done on issues as diverse as migration and climate change, the scale of such long term challenges is far greater than our collective action to date to meet them.
