ANA has made significant progress and in terms of recruiting, training and fielding of units, the security sector reform process has exceeded its objectives.

In the area of judicial reform, the objectives were to combat impunity, promote the independence of the judiciary, rehabilitate its infrastructure, promote training and disseminate information.

In the area of employment, sector objectives are centered in the promotion of self employment through infrastructure rehabilitation, special in rural areas, and professional training and social security.

The objectives are to promote early childhood development and to support the participation of parents in employment or training by improving access to affordable, quality early learning and child care programs and services.

Future sessions of the Programme Management Training (conducted seven times per year and focusing on programme staff) will give renewed attention to the establishment of objectives and indicators which meet the SMART criteria.

In paragraph 200 of its report, the Board recommended that UNRWA (a) compile, on a periodic basis, a report containing details of all expenses incurred for training purposes as well as an assessment of whether the training objectives and needs have been met and (b) investigate the use of distance learning techniques.

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce, in its master Proposal of the Sector Plan, has the persuasion of women to raise their literary knowledge and to participate in training courses as one of its master objectives.

For prosecution of these objectives the Ministry has decided to promote training courses leading to professional qualification for women opening of day care centers, works of inquiry on technologies appropriate to diminish the overload of the work of woman (improved stoves, water sources and energy next to the residence) are some such areas of training.

UNRWA is considering the introduction of an objectives based performance appraisal system. Preliminary steps will be taken to expedite the revision of performance evaluation reporting to provide for recording and discussing training needs and personal development plans.

In furtherance of those objectives, efforts are under way to establish a regional leadership training institute for Caribbean women in politics, an undertaking that was the result of a workshop organized by the Commonwealth secretariat and other partners.

In order to support peacekeeping efforts, UNIDIR began a new project to include women in disarmament, demobilization and reintegration processes through better research, training and education in order to further the objectives of Security Council resolution 1325 (2000).
