Application of this amount brought to 16,135,838 the total amount of outstanding assessed contributions for the former Yugoslavia.

This exceeds the amount outstanding at 30 September 2004 by over 14 million.

The interest is calculated on monthly basis from the remaining outstanding loan amount.

The amount still outstanding from the United States, however, stands at 1,280 million.

The staff member has also agreed to repay the outstanding amount with interest.

UNDP, the Office of Legal Affairs and UNICEF have agreed to settle the outstanding amount.

Total outstanding assessments amount to 46,179,983, of which 628,846 relates to UNAMIC and 45,551,137 to UNTAC.

However, the member concerned shall remain responsible for paying the full amount of its outstanding contributions.

That would reduce the amount outstanding at the end of 2005 compared with the end of 2004.

Of this amount, 386,000 is attributable to the revaluation of the outstanding loan from the United Nations.

However, a lump sum payment of 65,200 was received this year, reducing the outstanding amount to 1,807.

This amount included claims outstanding in respect of missions in liquidation UNAMIR ( 3 million), and UNTAC ( 0.7 million).

34. Accounts receivable from vendors amounted to more than 500,000, going back in part to the 1980s. No aged listing of accounts was available. Under accounts receivable from staff members, more than 650,000 was outstanding for over 12 months, including outstanding travel advances of more than 200,000. Our review of accounts receivable due from other United Nations agencies found that an amount of approximately 800,000 was outstanding with a part of this amount dating back to the 1980s.

Of the total amount outstanding of 739 million, 606 million is accounted for by the United States of America, 64 million by Brazil and 22 million by Argentina.

This amount exceeds a full year's worth of Mission costs. The total outstanding assessed contributions for all peacekeeping operations as at 31 March 2005 amounted to 1,365.9 million.

Key concerns include the material amount of outstanding contributions, which in turn resulted in insufficient cash to finance liabilities, as is elaborated on later in the present report.

If the implementation of measures to expedite timely payment of contributions were delayed until after the next General Conference session, the total amount outstanding might be even higher.

In addition, outstanding assessments were reduced by an amount of 1,557,102 pursuant to General Assembly resolution 50 83 of 15 December 1995, resulting in a shortfall of 38,453,995.
