F. Education and training programmes and curriculum development

With a view to guaranteeing linkages between the different levels forming part of basic education, the reform of secondary education introduces radical changes in this specific level as regards curriculum, organization and teacher training.

The first preparatory steps were taken towards curriculum transformation in primary education.

Non promotion subjects such as Guidance, Life Skills, Religious and Moral Education, Basic Information Science and Physical Education are to be treated as an integral part of the school curriculum and are not to be neglected in schools.

4. Basic education services

Royal Decrees Nos. 1006 and 1007 of 14 June 1991 and Royal Decree No. 1330 of 6 September 1991 establish the basic components of the curriculum of nursery education and the minimum content of compulsory primary and secondary education.

They go through two to three weeks of rigorous curriculum based education, training.

The Compulsory Basic Education Act had increased the duration of basic education from five to eight years.

The curriculum has been adapted to the state religious and the Arab education systems.

In order to provide world class education, the Government started the National Curriculum project.

In this regard, the Committee recommends that human rights education be included in the official curriculum at all levels of education.

The Committee is also concerned that reproductive health education is not part of the official curriculum of primary and secondary education.

In the health sector basic health and in the education area basic education are particularly important fields of cooperation.

The government has invested in basic education, has invested in basic health.

9.2 When Norwegian authorities proposed a new national curriculum for mandatory education to the Parliament in 1995, the Parliament's Standing Committee on Education, Research and Church Affairs ( the Education Committee ) proposed that the curriculum should include a common subject encompassing Christianity and other religious and ethical beliefs.

UNICEF is also providing technical support for the reform of the national curriculum for primary education.

The current curriculum for pupils in their high school years includes sex and family life education.

According to the national curriculum of basic and upper secondary schools (the principles of drafting curricula, schooling and education goals, the competencies pursued, organisation of studies) and the procedure for admitting students into vocational education establishments, gender differences shall neither be pointed out nor taken into account.

In addition, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport is incorporating relevant programs into the school curriculum.

Subsequently, a Curriculum Group was gathered to assist the Norwegian Board of Education in implementing the changes.

The curriculum for the compulsory school is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture.
