The need to increase the participation of developing countries in decision making on international economic matters was also recognized.

With regard to the Economic and Social Council, it is our desire to see the Council assume prominence as a moral voice on international economic and social matters.

The National Women apos s Office participated in the session, at which women apos s issues were taken up by the Committee on Economic and Social Matters, and Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Matters.

Those are matters of prime importance to CARICOM States from the standpoint of economic and social development and security interests.

Adoption of the agenda of the substantive session of 1996 of the Economic and Social Council and other organizational matters

The Charter of the United Nations, in article 71, mandates the Economic and Social Council to make suitable arrangements with non governmental organizations concerned with economic and social matters.

The Executive Secretary reports to the Secretary General on administrative and financial matters through the Under Secretary General for Management and on substantive matters through the Under Secretary General for Economic and Social Affairs.

In this connection the Executive Secretary continues to benefit from the advice and support of the Department of Management on personnel and financial matters and the Department of Economic and Social Affairs on substantive matters.

In this regard, the Assembly should play a more active role in global economic matters, including the deliberations on macroeconomic issues.

The areas of cooperation, apart from the field of international law, now cover matters in the economic, environmental and humanitarian fields.

X. MATTERS RELATING TO PLANETARY EXPLORATION AND MATTERS

These matters are marginal for the telecommunications market in private hands, but they are considerably significant from strategic, economic and social standpoints.

1. The organization shall be concerned with matters falling within the competence of the Economic and Social Council and its subsidiary bodies.

In accordance with Economic and Social Council resolution 2004 69 of 11 November 2004, the Ad Hoc Group of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters was renamed the Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters.

In South Africa, these matters were debated at the time it was decided to include socio economic rights in the Bill of Rights.

9.34 By its resolution 2004 69 of 11 November 2004, the Economic and Social Council decided to rename the Ad Hoc Group of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters the Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters.

The report covers a wide range of issues, including challenges before the United Nations in the new millennium and matters relating to peace and security, disarmament, sanctions, poverty eradication, social and economic development, refugee problems and administrative matters of the Secretariat.
