Beyond Latin America, several Eastern European countries offer ready examples. In these states, regulatory and taxation issues now affect confidence more deeply and consistently than does political tension.

For example, certain aspects of the legal and regulatory environment relating to businesses in European countries can be quite different from those in the United States or Japan.

Policy, Regulatory Frameworks and Equitable Benefit Sharing

But, like financial regulation, nuclear regulation in the EU, even with its Euratom treaty, is still essentially national. And, given the deep disparities in nuclear power s importance for European economies, consensus on regulatory harmonization is hard to reach.
