Career in the Brazilian Foreign Service

As stated in the previous report, the requirements for the employment in foreign service are established by the Foreign Service Act.

If the spouse of a diplomat works in a foreign mission, the foreign service allowance of the diplomat is not increased.

However, under the Organic Law of the Foreign Service, there is no discrimination with respect to entrance into a diplomatic career.

Of the promotions in rank and level in the Foreign Service since our previous report (2002 2003), 38 (69) were women.

If not available locally, such internationally recognized proof has to be established through service providers in foreign countries, resulting in increased costs.
