The exchange of technology and information on nuclear safety was an important aspect of the transfer of nuclear technology.

Gradually, we are approaching international consensus regarding the safety of the Soviet designed nuclear power plants. It is quite obvious that the issue of the safety of nuclear power stations cannot be solved within a short time.

Armenia applauds the progress achieved by the IAEA in preparing these legal bases in the form of the Convention on Nuclear Safety, the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management and the Convention on Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage.

It encouraged wide adherence to that Convention and the Convention on Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident, the Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency, the Convention on Nuclear Safety and the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management and other relevant international instruments and regulations.
