Under the aegis of the IAEA, the National Nuclear Regulatory Authority closely cooperates with its partner regulatory bodies of the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic, the United States, Russia, Argentina and others. The exchange of technology and information on nuclear safety was an important aspect of the transfer of nuclear technology.

But, like financial regulation, nuclear regulation in the EU, even with its Euratom treaty, is still essentially national. And, given the deep disparities in nuclear power s importance for European economies, consensus on regulatory harmonization is hard to reach.

Pakistan accords the highest priority to safety in its nuclear facilities, and has benefited from the nuclear safety expertise available through the Agency. We hope that the IAEA will now ensure the fullest possible exchange of safety related information and the sharing of expertise. Pakistan, as a State party to the Nuclear Safety Convention, will continue to cooperate with the IAEA on this issue.

All relevant IAEA instruments on nuclear security and safety must be made universal.

Chile has acceded to the other international legal instruments relating to nuclear safety.

My country carefully follows activities in nuclear and radiological safety, including physical protection.
