The current secondary school enrolment of 90,851 students (48.5 per cent female) is 38 per cent lower than pre war levels and, although enrolment in higher education in 1995 equalled that of previous years, of the 3,391 candidates for the scholastic year 1996 1997, only 600 were accorded places because of a lack of accommodation.
