European Union, Delegation of the European Commission

On 5 April 1996, a European Union delegation encountered clashes at Kismayo airport.

Mr. HAUGESTAD (Norway) said that his delegation shared the views expressed the previous day by the Irish delegation on behalf of the European Union.

1. Mr. Gjesdal (Norway) said that his delegation supported the statement made by the European Union.

Ms. Mladineo (Croatia), associating her delegation with the statement by made the European Union, said that Croatia had started negotiations for full membership in the Union.

Mr. DEKANY (Hungary) said that his delegation supported the view expressed by Ireland and the European Union.

My delegation strongly hopes that the decisions of the African Union will be endorsed by the Security Council.

As regards freedom from want, the delegation fully agrees with the in depth analysis of the European Union.

The other thing is, we would need time to discuss this with other members of the European Union delegation.

Mr. Hannesson (Iceland), said that his delegation aligned itself with the statement made on behalf of the European Union.

10. Mr. Jaremczuk (Poland) said that his delegation fully supported the statement made on behalf of the European Union.

Mr. Kryzhanivsky (Ukraine) My delegation aligns itself with the statement delivered by the United Kingdom on behalf of the European Union.

9. Mr. Skjønsberg (Norway) said that his delegation echoed a number of the observations made on behalf of the European Union.

Like the members of the European Union, I believe, at least those here in this forum, the French delegation supports your initiative.

Mr. Mavroyiannis (Cyprus) said that his delegation fully aligned itself with the statement made by Belgium on behalf of the European Union.

77. Mr. Sotirov (Bulgaria) said that his delegation wished to associate itself with the statement made on behalf of the European Union.

Mr. Arar (Turkey) My delegation has aligned itself with the statement made by the representative of Luxembourg on behalf of the European Union.

My delegation also reiterates the call by the African Union for Africa to be accorded two additional non permanent seats in the Council.

My delegation would like to associate itself with the statement made by the representative of Nigeria on behalf of the African Union (AU).

The Ukrainian delegation associates itself with the statement made by the representative of the United Kingdom on behalf of the European Union presidency.

His delegation believed that a decision should be taken on the issue after a suspension for consultations, as requested by the European Union.

That delegation also expressed the view that the future protocol did not conflict with the regulations and other documents of the International Telecommunication Union.

The European Union therefore supports the initiative that my delegation has taken within the Security Council to pursue this through a new draft resolution.

Mr. İlkin (Turkey) My delegation has already aligned itself with the statement made by the representative of Luxembourg on behalf of the European Union.

Mr. Hannesson (Iceland), whose delegation supported the statement made by Italy on behalf of the European Union, wanted to stress a number of points.

Ms. TAMLYN (United States of America) said that she supported the statement made by the delegation of Ireland on behalf of the European Union.

Mr. MAZEIKS (Latvia) said that his delegation associated itself with the statement made by the representative of Ireland on behalf of the European Union.

Mr. Skjonsberg (Norway) said that his delegation associated itself fully with the statement of the representative of Belgium on behalf of the European Union.

51. Finally, his delegation reiterated the concern of the European Union at the reduction in the number of P 2 and P 3 posts.

In that regard, my delegation supports the recommendation contained in the Secretary General's report to support the African Union in establishing an African standby force.

Ms. Gjorgjieva (The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) said that her delegation aligned itself with the statement made earlier on behalf of the European Union.

54. Mr. TANASESCU (Romania) said that his delegation associated itself with the statement made by the representative of Ireland on behalf of the European Union.

Those elements corresponded to some, though not all, of the amendments proposed by the European Union, and his delegation would therefore abstain in the voting.

46. Mr. WELBERTS (Germany) said that his delegation fully shared the views expressed by the representative of the Netherlands on behalf of the European Union.

One delegation noted the nature of the mixed flow from Iraq and emphasized the concern for the humanitarian element in the European Union Action Plan.

My delegation fully associates itself with the statements delivered by the delegation of Indonesia on behalf of the Non Aligned Movement, by Nigeria on behalf of the African Union and by Botswana on behalf of the Southern African Development Community.

The European Union delegation in Kabul came into this and hired me to work inside the Ministry of Public Health, to lobby this approach we succeeded.

26. Ms. DICKSON (United Kingdom) said that her delegation fully endorsed the statement made by the representative of the Netherlands on behalf of the European Union.

Her delegation would like assurances that UNMIS would comply with its Security Council mandate to maintain continuous liaison and coordination with the African Union Mission in Sudan.

In that regard his delegation supported the approach taken by the European Union in an attempt to resolve amicably certain differences regarding the implementation of the Treaty.

45. His delegation supported the view of the European Union that the concepts of the universality of the court and its effective powers must be properly harmonized.
