The national authority for control of handling of work with biological agents is the Swedish Work Environment Authority (SWEA).

It is important that the Authority, while examining the reports submitted by contractors, continue the elaboration of rules, regulations and procedures to ensure the effective protection of the marine environment and the conservation of the natural resources of the Area.

Under article 145 of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Authority has a role in ensuring the protection and preservation of the marine environment from harmful effects that may arise from activities in the Area.
