Revised status of 2005 estimated income from voluntary sources

Current status of 2005 estimated income from voluntary sources

During the period January December 2004, the Institute generated income amounting to 54,292.04 from rental of its facilities.

Estimated income falls under two categories (a) cost reimbursement for field offices and (b) miscellaneous income.

The additional rental income would in that case amount to 295,000 a year, based on a current rental rate of 106 per square metre per year (excluding the reimbursement component for maintenance services).

As low income households are predominantly tenants, the private sector rental stock plays an important role in meeting their shelter needs.

Estimated income and adjustments to the 2006 2007 biennial support budget amount to 190.0 million, including 161.0 from recovery charges, as compared to estimated income to the 2004 2005 biennial support budget of 156.4 million (including income from recovery charges of 129.6 million).

The additional requirements are mainly attributable to a higher actual rental cost of the three Puma military helicopters than estimated in the budget for 2004 05.

The projected income is estimated at 470.7 million, an increase of 20.5 million over the revised income estimates of 450.2 million for the biennium.

Estimated 2005 total revenue is 53.77 million, which is composed of (a) revenue derived from project portfolio implementation services at 42.14 million (b) service revenue of 9.82 million derived from supervision and loan administration services to IFAD projects and from GFATM, for which UNOPS is the local fund agent in various countries and (c) rental revenue derived from subleasing UNOPS headquarters premises, interest income and other miscellaneous income totalling 1.81 million.

The estimated level of support cost income shows a reduction when compared with estimates for the previous biennium.

The total estimated income reflects a net reduction of 3,090,700 resulting from decreases under a number of sources.

A number of people occupying emergency shelters are employed full time, seasonally, or part time, or have other forms of income and are unable to find affordable rental accommodation.

MISCELLANEOUS INCOME Estimated miscellaneous income for 2006 2007 amounts to 1,538,400 in the regular budget and 315,200 in the operational budget, details of which are shown in the following paragraphs.

The decrease in rental income at Headquarters can be attributed to (a) movement of tenants, most notably the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund and (b) the treatment of the rental of office space of the new Department of Safety and Security, which subsumed the former Office of the United Nations Security Coordinator.
