In the treaty context, however, the EU has not traditionally played a direct role in making treaties.

Indeed, the EU continues to exist precisely because its members respect treaties. Take away respect for international law, and the EU would cease to exist almost overnight.

The EU will continue, in its relations with third countries, to stress the importance of these treaties and promote universal adherence.

As to the legal hierarchy of treaties, Peru apos s Political Constitution, together with international human rights treaties, take precedence, followed by international treaties on Latin American integration, multilateral treaties and other international instruments.
