Furthermore, the poor quality of some education, resulting from irrelevant and obsolete curricula, overcrowded classrooms, untrained teachers and gender discrimination, cause high dropout and repetition rates especially among girls.

The High level Plenary Meeting should highlight the importance of combating discrimination on the basis of race, colour, gender, language, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation and other such grounds.

The rulings of the Equality Tribunal, which adjudicated in cases of alleged discrimination, were binding and could be appealed only to the High Court on a point of law.
