(e) Annual leave shall accrue during the period of maternity leave.

The period of maternity leave is counted as time worked for the purposes of seniority, annual leave and the thirteenth month bonus.

(b) Rule 106.2 (e), Sick leave during annual leave, is amended to clarify that sick leave during annual leave may be approved only if the period of sickness exceeds five consecutive working days

The relevant rules state that A female civil servant shall be granted maternity leave on full pay for a maximum period of ninety days and the leave exceeding the period of ninety days shall be treated as leave admissible to and desired by the civil servant .

(k) (i) Staff members travelling on approved home leave shall be required to spend a substantial period of annual leave in their home country.

This would leave an amount of 263,000 from the savings relating to the financial period 2002.

If the birth takes place before the presumed due date indicated by the physician, the unused part of the prenatal leave is added to the period of post natal leave.

(iii) All arrangements as to leave shall be subject to the exigencies of service, which may require that leave be taken by a staff member during a period designated by the Secretary General.

Staff members will be expected to perform their duties during the period of notice of resignation, except when the resignation takes effect upon the completion of maternity or paternity leave or following sick or special leave.

At the end of maternity leave, if a woman wishes so, she may be given child care leave until the child reaches the age of one and a half, with an allowance paid over that period of time.

The amendments introduced dealt with questions that often arise, such as the time that eligible staff may take the entitlement during the home leave cycle and the period of time spent in the country of home leave.

Amendment no. 25 adds that a woman can extend her maternity leave when the newborn is hospitalized for a period of over 12 weeks. This extension does not coincide with the remaining periods of extension, to a maximum period of 4 weeks.

(e) A staff member may, in exceptional circumstances, be granted advance annual leave up to a maximum of two weeks, provided that his or her service is expected to continue for a period beyond that necessary to accrue the leave so advanced.

(a) Staff members who are regarded as internationally recruited under rule 103.07 and who are serving outside their home country shall be entitled once in each two year period every two years of qualifying service to visit their home country at the Organization's expense in order to spend in that country a substantial period of annual leave.
