Upon enquiry, UNODC informed the Advisory Committee that the Independent Evaluation Unit, with three Professional staff and two General Service staff in the Policy Analysis and Research Branch (Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs), was responsible for planning and coordinating the evaluation activities for UNODC.

Their activities are primarily targeted at the specialized units of the Timorese police, which include the Police Reserve Unit, the Rapid Intervention Unit and the Marine Unit, in addition to the Border Patrol Unit.

The Special Unit will also work with public sector authorities and business leaders to create the enabling policy and market environment for increased intra South trade and investment flows, especially to Africa.
