Consideration by the Inter Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee of the comments received from member States of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space on the proposals on space debris mitigation

The Meeting had before it proposed revised outlines and text for the brochure entitled Space solutions for the world's problems how the United Nations family is using space technology for sustainable development , prepared by the Office for Outer Space Affairs on the basis of contributions, suggestions and comments received from entities of the United Nations system.

Pursuant to paragraph 17 of General Assembly resolution 59 116, the Subcommittee reconvened the Working Group on Space Debris to consider, as necessary, the proposals of the Inter Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee on space debris mitigation and any related comments that might be received.

All the member States that had raised specific technical comments on the IADC space debris mitigation guidelines were represented at the consultative meeting except for the Republic of Korea and Turkey.

The Inter Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) has considered the comments received from member States of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, how these would be taken into account and good progress was made.

31. The Office for Outer Space Affairs together with ESA propose to respond to the recommendations of the working groups and the various comments made during the course evaluation by undertaking the following activities

The Subcommittee noted with appreciation that IADC had continued its efforts to achieve further progress in understanding the various technical aspects connected with space debris, taking into account the comments submitted by member States to the IADC space debris mitigation guidelines.

(b) Consideration by the Inter Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee of the comments received from member States on the proposals on space debris mitigation and results of the consultative meeting of the Inter Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee and the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space held in Vancouver, Canada, on 4 October 2004 (A AC.105 C.1 L.279).

To that end, the Meeting agreed that the Office for Outer Space Affairs would revise the outline and text based on the comments received during the meeting and would circulate both among members of the Inter Agency Meeting for their approval.

Space is for everybody and havoc in space means havoc for everybody.

A draft report was distributed to members of the Board in August for their comments the final report contains comments received.

At its forty first session, the Subcommittee also established a Working Group on Space Debris to consider comments received from member States of the Committee on the proposals on space debris mitigation, presented by the Inter Agency Space Debris Coordination Committee (IADC) to the Subcommittee at its fortieth session, in 2003 (A AC.105 C.1 L.260).

With regard to the comments received from India, the Russian Federation and Turkey relating to the use of nuclear power sources in space, IADC believed that that subject required further investigation.

I reiterate my appreciation for his comments and his thoughts.

He left the company because he saw, as some other people in the space suit industry, an emerging market for space suits for space tourists.

For example, in response to the increasing commercialization of outer space, the Office for Outer Space Affairs should continue its yearly workshops on space law.

Allowing for prior comment would require WTO members to notify proposed laws and regulations and to solicit comments from interested parties and take such comments into account.
