The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) provided technical assistance in specific areas including the Education for All initiative, technical and vocational education and training, early childhood education, teacher training, adult literacy, inclusive education and higher education.

Little enrolment by girls in technical and postsecondary education.

Access to technical education has become a goal for women.

United Nations technical agencies have made significant investments in the education sector.

Moreover, it foresees other differentiations, not previously addressed, such as a rural urban binomial for Basic and Middle Education, Technical High School, Youth and Adult Education, Special Education and Indigenous Education.

As a school promoting technical and economic education, TTG is a kind of base school for the Tallinn Technical University (TTU).

The Ministry of Labour and Social Protection's vocational technical education system has 73 vocational technical schools that train specialists in 160 specialties.

The programme includes general education, teacher education and technical vocational education and training for Palestine refugee children and youth, in accordance with their needs, identity and cultural heritage.

Secondary education is available to the General Certificate of Education A Level. Higher education is provided by the University of the West Indies. The H. Lavity Stoutt Community College offers associate degree courses and technical education.

Uneducated women have almost four times as many children as women with university, technical or higher education.

UNICEF has also provided technical support for the development of a national curriculum reform process for primary education.

UNESCO provided extensive technical assistance and policy and planning advice to the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in the preparation of the Ministry's second medium term strategic plan.

In that regard, UNAMI is also providing technical support to a broad public education campaign on the draft constitution.

It therefore urges countries to ensure the widest and earliest possible access of girls and women to secondary and higher levels of education, as well as to vocational education and technical training.

UNICEF education programmes are appropriate vehicles for technical assistance in hygiene education in schools and the development of hygiene education modules in school curricula, as well as for advocacy for separate toilets for boys and girls in schools and adequate washing facilities.

(a) The Technical Unit for the Promotion of School Enrolment was set up under the Ministry of National Education, in cooperation with the World Bank, as part of the Sectoral basic education project, with a view to meeting the challenge of promoting education for girls.

The national education system is divided into three subsectors the general education sector, which is run by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport the technical education and vocational training sector, which is run by the National Institute of Technology (INATEC) and the Nicaraguan Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) and the higher education sector, which is run by the universities.

It goes on from there to serious hands on technical education informally, out of schools. In Ghana we had set up one of these labs.

More recently, the Spring Buds Fund for Practical Technical Training has been established to provide cultural education and vocational training to girls in disadvantaged areas.

(b) Providing human rights legal advice, education and training through technical cooperation programmes aimed at strengthening the administration of justice, combating impunity and developing effective national human rights institutions, human rights education programmes and comprehensive national plans of action.

Constitutional Provisions Article 37, clauses b and c state The State shall (b) remove illiteracy and provide free and compulsory secondary education within the minimum possible period (c) make technical and professional education generally available and higher education accessible to all on the basis of merit. These provisions are non discriminatory.

Although some technical difficulties primarily involving voter verification continued to be encountered, improvements were noted in voter education and in the level of cooperation between the Secretariat for the Technical Administration of Elections (STAE), the local authorities and the police.

We emphasize the critical role of both formal and informal education as envisaged in the Millennium Declaration, in particular basic education and training for eradicating illiteracy, and strive for expanded secondary and higher education as well as vocational education and technical training, especially for girls and women, the creation of human resources and infrastructure capabilities and the empowerment of those living in poverty.

An example of good practice is the role played by the National Organisation of Women in Higher Technical Education (VHTO) in the structuring or revision of curricula of higher education training courses to remove gender bias, specifically in the sciences.

In June 2004, the Director General of UNESCO and the Afghan Minister of Education signed an aide memoire with a focus on capacity building in the areas of teacher training, curriculum reform, technical and vocational education and training and literacy.

Women are in the majority at intermediate and higher general secondary education level evening classes, while men are in the majority on technical courses (Figure 56).

The Committee noted the actions taken by the Government to encourage girls to subscribe to more technical training courses and to address sex stereotypes in education.

Prior to the adoption of the Act on the educational system, technical and vocational education in the Niger was regulated by a large number of bodies.

Clearly, China needs to reform its higher education institutions, including technical and vocational training programs. At the same time, it must expand opportunities for anyone with talent to acquire high quality secondary and tertiary education, thereby reducing substantial disparities in the accessibility and quality of higher education across regions and social groups.
