In May 2004, the Department of Peacekeeping Operations provided technical assistance to improve the AU Situation Room and early warning capability.

It is neither realistic nor desirable for the United Nations to be the only provider of technical expertise to broad peacebuilding operations.

That increase resulted in part from new operations in Burundi, Côte d'Ivoire and Haiti and expanded operations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and in part from a technical issue related to peacekeeping assessment rates.

The two countries would be carrying out joint activities, exchanging technical experience and equipment and information on potentially hazardous regions, planning demining operations, carrying out joint medical evacuation operations and conducting joint information campaigns on the danger of mines.

A separate technical operations system, known as the HIV AIDS monitoring system, focuses on public health and comes under the Health Management Information System (SIGSA).

1.22 The secretariat of the Board provides substantive, technical and administrative support to the Board, its Audit Operations Committee and the Panel of External Auditors and its Technical Group, including research and analysis of documentation relevant to their activities.

An intelligence led approach to law enforcement will be promoted, forensic laboratory testing for illicit drugs enhanced and technical equipment in support of agency operations provided.

The Section, in consultation and coordination with the management and staff of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, will coordinate day to day Department of Peacekeeping Operations security issues with the relevant operational units of the Department of Safety and Security and maintain technical lines of communication with the Department of Peacekeeping Operations led field missions.

Participants and accompanying persons interested in experiencing criminal justice operations in Thailand first hand are invited to participate in the technical visits to be organized during the Congress.

Every natural or legal person wishing to participate in such an operation must be able to meet the technical conditions and safety obligations required by all stages of such operations.

It therefore requires regularization of its budgetary and technical support, and the migration of responsibilities from the Department of Peacekeeping Operations to the Department of Management, where such projects belong.

The 300 series appointment of limited duration is intended for activities of a limited duration not expected to exceed three years, including peacekeeping and peacemaking, humanitarian, technical cooperation and emergency operations.

In addition, the Office provides administrative and programme support for the implementation of the operational programmes of the Department, including the Development Account, technical cooperation activities, extrabudgetary projects and other special operations.

19.4 Increased support will be provided to Member States, at their request, in national capacity building, human rights education and training through advisory services, technical cooperation activities and field activities and operations.

(f) Engaging more strategically with the major global funds and in support of their funding operations, including by strengthening UNICEF participation in country coordination mechanisms and technical support to national policy and implementation.

In some cases, in order to achieve greater synergies and further enhance joint operations between UNIDO and UNDP, the possibility of establishing joint UNIDO UNDP regional technical centres offices will also be explored.

These procedures are needed to address both the day to day operations of registry systems and the continuation of their technical development, in a coordinated manner, as improvements are identified and new requirements arise.

The working paper of the Secretariat on making standards work (A CONF.2003 8) referred to technical assistance, including in relation to gender issues, in particular in connection with peacekeeping operations and post conflict situations.

Sometimes, tailored, small and limited operations are not justified from the point of view of the topic involved as mentioned in the technical cooperation strategy, more interdivisional operations would increase the impact of UNCTAD assistance, for example in areas such as trade and poverty, negotiations on trade facilitation, services and investment, competition and investment, environmental issues and technology policies.

The Advisory Committee recalls that the support account for peacekeeping operations was established by the General Assembly in its resolution 45 258 of 3 May 1991 to address the provision of overload posts required to supplement resources under the regular budget for managerial, legal, technical and administrative support and backstopping of good offices and peacekeeping operations.

At a technical interchange meeting in August 1994, NASA and the RSA agreed on a number of important integration and operations issues, such as how command and control orders would be sent to the Space Station.

Our tracking activities are meant to remain of a mainly coordinating nature, because my Office cannot and will not build up the technical and human resources that would allow us to carry out sophisticated intelligence operations.
