6. Invites countries to be represented at the highest political level at the Summit

The heads of State and leaders of Government have made many promises for decades, including at the 1995 World Summit on Social Development, the 1995 Beijing World Conference on Women, the 1999 Group of Seven summit, the 2000 Millennium Summit, the 2002 International Conference on Financing for Development, the 2002 Johannesburg Summit and the Group of Eight summit at Gleneagles.

At the 2005 world summit, our leaders reaffirmed this understanding.

At stake is the success or failure of the September summit.

That process will be formalized at the Salamanca Summit in October.

The goal set at the 1996 World Food Summit to halve the number of hungry people in the world by 2015 had been reaffirmed at the Millennium Summit and in the Millennium Development Goals.

We all understand the important issues that will be at stake during the September summit.

We therefore welcome the decisions taken at the recently concluded Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) review summit.

Political will and efforts at the national level were crucial to implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on Sustainable Development and major United Nations conferences, including the Millennium Summit.
