Employment of Minorities (Promotion) Act

The Employment of Minorities (Promotion) Act (SAMEN), which targeted men and women from ethnic minorities, was repealed on 31 December 2003.

Foreign Nationals (Employment) Act

The Employment Contracts Act prohibits the employers, in hiring and entering into employment contracts, discriminate against persons applying for employment.

Ireland's far reaching equality legislation included the Employment Equality Act 1998 and the Equal Status Act 2000.

Women's employment experience was further disadvantaged by occupational training that remains concentrated in traditional fields that limit opportunities for employment and promotion.

The protection of maternity in Estonia is guaranteed by the Employment Contracts Act, the Public Service Act, the Working and Rest Time Act, the Holidays Act, the Health Insurance Act, the Social Tax Act, the Child Benefits Act and the State Pension Insurance Act.

The Equal Treatment in Employment (Age Discrimination) Act prohibits discrimination on the grounds of age in employment, the professions and vocational training.

Under the Employment Insurance Act, the Canada Employment Insurance Commission has established Employment Benefits and Support Measures (EBSM) that provide active measures designed to assist unemployed Canadians return to work.

The Income and Employment Support Act, which came into force in November 2004 and replaced the Social Assistance Act (1977), provides enabling legislation that will facilitate the integration of employment interventions with the Income Support Program.

Where domestic staff are concerned, the Foreign Nationals (Employment) Act must remain fully applicable.

In addition to the Employment Equality Act and the Equal Status Act he had just mentioned, equality was promoted by an Equality Authority.

The establishment of the United Nations Youth Fund and the launching of the Youth Employment Network encouraged the promotion of national action plans for youth employment.

Was there a clear national policy for the promotion of equality of opportunity and treatment in regard to employment?

The Pre employment Medical Examination Complaints Committee was set up in 2002, pursuant to the Medical Examinations Act.

With a view to achieving full employment, technical studies have been conducted on the effects of globalization, the creation of employment opportunities among the rural population and the promotion of new technologies.

Laws 2639 98 and 2874 2000 Regulations regarding terms of exemption from Collective Labour Agreements (Territorial Employment Pacts) Promotion of part time employment and restrictions regarding working overtime Establishment of informal forms of employment (more specifically, temporary agency work by law 2956 2001).

The new Income and Employment Supports Act (IESA), implemented in 2004, enhances training opportunities for low income and vulnerable client groups, and expands benefits for clients moving into employment or training.

Alberta Human Resources and Employment implemented the Income and Employment Supports Act in 2004, which provided a new mandate for the Alberta Child Health Benefit and the Alberta Adult Health Benefit.

The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations reports every two years on the effects of bargaining on the employment of women as part of the Government's responsibilities under the above mentioned Act.

As stated in the previous report, the requirements for the employment in foreign service are established by the Foreign Service Act.

The Act requires federally regulated employers to move toward a more representative work force by developing and implementing an employment equity plan.

This Act is of particular importance to employees with temporary employment contracts, among whom women and employees from ethnic minorities clearly predominate.

Other provisions of the Act protect against sex discrimination in areas such as employment, education and provision of goods, services and facilities.

In 1999, Japan s Equal Employment Opportunity Act was amended to provide equal employment opportunities for men and women by prohibiting discriminatory labor practices. But the legislation has had little impact on the workplace atmosphere for women.

The FB H Labour Law sets forth that persons cannot be placed into less favourable position based on their gender in respect to engagement, education, promotion, employment requirements and conditions, cancellation of work contracts or other employment issues.

The Act respecting equal access to employment in public bodies was also amended to add persons with a disability to the groups targeted.

Policies concerning women can be classified in the following categories Promotion of employment and entrepreneurship. It includes programmes for new positions of work for women, aiming at obtaining working experience and promoting employment of unemployed women aged 18 65.

The Unemployment Insurance Act, which entered into force in 2001, provides for benefits upon unemployment, collective termination of employment contracts and insolvency of employers.

The Committee welcomes the enactment of a comprehensive legislative framework on anti discrimination, which includes the Employment Equality Act 1998, the Equal Status Act 2000 and the Equality Act 2004, and notes with satisfaction that legislation to implement Council Directive 2000 43 EC of 29 June 2000, which prohibits discrimination on the grounds of racial or ethnic origin in employment, education, social protection and access to goods and services, is currently before Parliament.
