The Language Services Section continued to provide interpretation, translation and reproduction services to the Chambers, the parties and the Registry.

Lastly, interpretation services had in fact been provided for the 459th meeting of the Committee on Conferences.

We are also addressing the challenge of identifying and training impartial and effective interpretation and translation services.

The Division of Court Services has developed the necessary structures to guarantee organizational support for courtroom hearings the receipt, recording and distribution of information and translation and interpretation services for the whole Court.

The contingency for conference services would amount to USD 6.6 million for interpretation, documentation and meetings services support requirements, making a total of USD 7.8 million including programme support costs and working capital reserve.

The constitutional principle of protection of minorities and the principles governing the interpretation of language rights favour a large and liberal interpretation of the French Language Services Act which imposes on the Government of Ontario a duty to provide services such as those provided at the Montfort, unless it is reasonable and necessary to limit them.

In light of these rules of interpretation, the government of Ontario did not show that it was reasonable and necessary to limit the services provided at the Montfort.

As for services provided by Governments in response to needs in the areas of technology, personal assistance, interpretation services and others, 61.4 per cent responded that they provided such services to children 55.3 per cent to women and 56.1 per cent to low income and working class persons with disabilities.

Contingencies Conference services To date, the costs of conference services (mainly interpretation at meetings, translation, reproduction and distribution of documents, and related services) to the Convention bodies have been met by the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), financed from the regular budget of the United Nations adopted by the General Assembly.

Translation, interpretation, facilities, printing and other services to one session of the General Conference, three sessions of the Industrial Development Board and two sessions of the Programme and Budget Committee.
