The Committee notes that in some instances the amounts of the claims made against the United Nations have been scaled down, and settlements are lower than the original claims.

The Office acted for the Organization in the settlement of claims brought either by the United Nations or against it, in particular commercial claims arising out of peacekeeping activities.
