The subregional offices were concerned by weaknesses in coordination and by the insufficient correlation between the services of regional advisers and their own needs and those of regional economic communities.

The regional commissions are also aware of the information needs for promoting successful rural development and an entrepreneurial base in rural communities.

The private sector can also provide support to this endeavour through regional projects, investments and job creation opportunities, especially in border communities.

UNIDO is now gradually taking measures and actions together with Regional Economic Communities, Governments and the African private sector to streamline sectoral action plans and regional road maps within the sectoral priorities of NEPAD.

OIOS observed, however, that the intensity and effectiveness of subregional office support varied considerably between offices and in regard to different regional economic communities.

The guiding principles of the strategy address specific gaps and challenges identified by Pacific Island communities through the Commission Pacific Islands Regional Progress Report (1994 2004) and the pacific regional position paper prepared for the Conference.

We will support efforts to enhance the capacity of the African Union and regional economic communities by providing programme support, in cooperation with other donors.

For example, ECA undertook an assessment in 2004 of the regional consultations it organizes with sister agencies and in close cooperation with the African Union, the NEPAD secretariat and the Regional Economic Communities in support for NEPAD.

ECA and the Transport Programme were instrumental in the setting up of the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) Transport Coordination Committee in February 2005 to ensure proper coordination.

At issue, especially in Africa, is also how countries can rationalize the composition and functions of the regional economic communities to ensure that they improve trade and investment opportunities.

OHCHRB conducted two regional workshops for women leaders of grass roots communities 96 women from 8 provinces attended the workshops, whose main topic was mechanisms to combat sexual violence.

Support will be provided to member States and the regional economic communities in translating the priorities and objectives of NEPAD into concrete projects and programmes at the country level.

Governments at local, regional and national levels should recognize the role of multiple identities in contributing to open communities and in establishing useful distinctions between public institutional structures and cultural identities.

In the area of infrastructure and capacity building, high priority projects have been approved by the NEPAD Heads of State and Government Implementation Committee to be implemented by regional economic communities.

These communities in these cities are actually more vital than the illegal communities.

The valuable help that subregional offices can provide is by acting as a filter and channel in facilitating access by their Member States, regional economic communities and other stakeholders to the most relevant communities of knowledge networks that address the priority areas in their regions and to databases with information relevant to subregions.

In response to needs identified by families with children and youth with complex needs, ministries work together with regional authorities, boards, contract agencies and communities to provide an easily identifiable, integrated response.

Indonesia continued to address the special needs of other developing counties within the context of South South cooperation, through various regional and interregional mechanisms, and through tripartite arrangements in collaboration with donor communities.

The African Regional Organisation of the ICFTU (ICFTU AFRO) has a five year plan on AIDS which focuses on workers in the road and maritime transport, agricultural communities, plantations, commerce and hotel sectors.

The indicators involved relate to the status of national farming communities, their natural resource endowments and agricultural management capacities, and the national regional SMART driving forces of technology, infrastructure, institutions and policies (TIIP).

Saskatchewan Health has been collaborating with First Nations communities, Health Canada, the Public Health Agency of Canada, and Regional Health Authorities on emergency management planning for pandemic influenza and other disasters and emergency events.
