Reaffirms its commitment to achieving a successor agreement to the International Tropical Timber Agreement, 1994

Pursuant to the commitment and solidarity agreement among the leaders of Arab States,

They reaffirmed this commitment again in the 1995 Interim Agreement, again one year ago at the Washington summit and again in the Hebron agreement.

Crucially, both parties have quickly and authoritatively reaffirmed their commitment to the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Underlining its commitment to supporting implementation of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the annexes thereto (collectively the Peace Agreement, S 1995 999, annex),

This constitutes a reaffirmation of Mexico's commitment to and agreement with the initiative to make the Middle East into a denuclearized zone.

The Committee is encouraged by the Government apos s commitment to the continuity of the process of negotiating a comprehensive peace agreement, as illustrated by the signing in Mexico City on 6 May 1996 of the Agreement on Social and Economic Aspects and Agrarian Situation, which forms part of, and will come into effect with the signing of, the Agreement on a Firm and Lasting Peace.

Political will and commitment

There was political commitment, some financial commitment, and everybody joined in the fight.

Furthermore, no agreement has been reached on the restructuring of the Commission to ensure its independence, or on the Government's financial commitment to sustain the new structure.

Following the death of John Garang, the peace process in the Sudan requires an even greater commitment by all parties to implement the historic Nairobi peace agreement.

The Agreement includes an Israeli commitment to allow the passage of convoys to facilitate the movement of goods and persons between Gaza and the West Bank, specifying that bus convoys would start by 15 December.

As a demonstration of this commitment, and her strong belief in a nuclear free world, she had concluded safeguards agreement with IAEA and ratified the Treaty of Pelindaba on the African Nuclear Weapon Free Zone.
