We look forward to your ideas on the negotiations that might ensue in this intergovernmental preparatory process.

It will continue to meet annually as in the past every second year will be reserved for intergovernmental negotiations.

What specific recommendations can the Forum make to Governments to engage indigenous peoples in intergovernmental negotiations on traditional knowledge issues?

During the negotiations, my Special Adviser provided support to the parties and to the mediation by the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).

In this context, I believe we should continue to examine closely the issues at hand in negotiations at the intergovernmental level until we develop a consensus that serves the Organization's interests.

At its 10th meeting, on 1 May, the Council noted that the President had informed the Council that additional countries had joined as members of the Committee on Negotiations with Intergovernmental Agencies.

The most recent meeting of the Commission on Plant Genetic Resources, held in December 1996, was part of these intergovernmental negotiations, at which new proposals had been made to strengthen the implementation of Farmers Rights.

The European Union reiterates its full support for the Intergovernmental Authority on Development peace negotiations, as well as for the role of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development Partners Forum, and in so doing it urges the negotiating parties to agree to hold their next round of peace talks in Nairobi at an early date.
