Many delegations underlined the importance of States becoming parties to and effectively implementing the existing legal instruments, including the Convention, the Agreement and the 1993 High Seas Fishing Compliance Agreement, as well as implementing the FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries and the FAO international plans of action.

In my previous reports on the Sudan I consistently voiced the daunting challenges involved in implementing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

We have ratified both the Rome Statute and the Agreement on Privileges and Immunities and have adopted the necessary implementing legislation.

In the Agreement, international organizations are requested to assist the parties in developing and implementing a programme for capacity enhancement in the south.

The 10,000 strong peacekeeping force authorized by the Council will assist the parties to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in implementing that historic peace accord.

We thank the Secretary General and his staff for their work in negotiating and implementing the Agreement, both at Headquarters and in the field.

Regional organizations will play a key role in advancing trade facilitation and in implementing measures that may result from a multilateral agreement on trade facilitation.

But let us be clear the people of the Sudan, the donor community and the United Nations face extraordinary challenges in implementing the Peace Agreement.

The economic partnership agreement between Japan and Singapore also provides for cooperation in the field of competition policy ( it has now been supplemented by an implementing agreement), and this will be a basis for competition policy elements in the Japan ASEAN Economic Partnership Initiative.

Pursuant to paragraph 3 of resolution 1590 (2005), UNMIS continued to provide good offices and political support to assist the parties in implementing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and resolve all ongoing conflicts in the Sudan.

Previous experiences of implementing the Ceasefire Agreement in the Nuba Mountains and the Cessation of Hostilities in Southern Sudan provide a solid evidence of the ability and the will of the Government to fulfil its commitments.
