Two issues needed to be clarified before conducting this constitutional convention.

In view of the new rights recognized under the constitutional reform and in conformity with article 75, paragraph 22, the Convention has constitutional status.

This Convention has constitutional standing and has been embodied in article 75 of the new Argentine Constitution.

The Committee welcomes the planned constitutional revision for the incorporation of the principles and provisions of the Convention.

158. Notwithstanding ratification of the Convention without reservations, the Committee is concerned that the Convention is not being implemented within an adequate legal and constitutional framework.

58. The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, ratified in 1979, also has constitutional standing.

UNIFEM is building capacities to apply the Convention to constitutional reviews in Rwanda and Burundi and to national legislation in Nigeria.

60. The Committee recommends that the envisaged constitutional reform in the State party more fully reflect the provisions of the Convention.

377. The Committee notes with satisfaction that during the period from 1993, important constitutional reforms have been introduced in order to advance the status of Mexican women and implement the Convention and that constitutional reform has been followed by changes in other legislation.
